HDCD Guidance Notes
This document is the first of a series of guidelines that have been developed to help Highland families and professionals involved with children who have or who are suspected of having a range of difficulties.
This one relates to those who deal with children who may have Developmental Co-ordination Disorder, others to follow will look at Autistic Spectrum Disorder and Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder.
It is important to acknowledge the effectiveness of joint working across agencies including Education, Health, Social Work Services and the Voluntary Sector, together with the valuable contribution made by parents in the preparation of these guidelines.
Working collaboratively with colleagues and parents is vital for ensuring that children’s potentials are fulfilled in all respects including the physical and emotional well being of the child and their family within their community. These guidelines encourage services to do this quickly and efficiently whilst ensuring equity across the Highlands.
We hope that these guidelines will be of value to professionals and parents alike, particularly as it is proposed as a living document which will evolve over time in line with the changing needs of children and their families.
Accordingly this document is a statement of intent in line with the aspirations of parents and professionals in developing multi-agency services in Highland over the next few years.
